  • I saw the speech by Lochte, it was very inspirational. For the last week, I have not been drinking. After the storm, I didn’t have enough money to buy any alcohol and since then I have felt better sober. When listening to Lochte’s speech, I realized that I had been using alcohol to cover up my pain. He said, “Even though I am no longer able to swim like I used to, I am still able to do great things. I might no longer be as famous but I’m still able to do great things. I go around America inspiring people and talking about my life. I get to see a large crowd of people that want to hear what I have to say. It was important for me to realize that it is ok to change as a person. Even though I was once a famous Olympic athlete, I can still be something great. Like an inspiration to all of you here today.” That really stood out to me because I realized that I need to do something with my life. For many years I have done nothing but work, exercise, and drink. I know now that I need to start doing something else to better myself. I might go back to school.

    What caused you to drink? What would you study in school?
    Clarify where the money for school will come from
    Suggestions: write a bit more to add details that further characterize the character.

The Storm

I don’t exactly remember where I was at the start of the storm. I would bet I was taking a nap or getting a drink from the fridge but I woke up on the floor to what sounded like giant bricks hitting the ceiling. I started having a panic attack, this reminded me all too well of the sound of bombshells back in the war. Knowing I had to do something I wanted to make my way to the basement but my legs wouldn’t move. I wasn’t sure if it was fear of a hangover at the time but looking back it was probably a mix of both. R.I.P Mr. Evans

The day started like any other, with hitting the snooze button on my alarm and getting another 5 minutes of sleep. Then another 5, and another 5 until I had lost 35 minutes to the alarm. After getting out of bed I went to the kitchen to make coffee only to soon realize I had forgotten to do the dishes the night before and didn’t have a clean coffee mug. I could just use a water cup even if it got stained who would care? After my morning coffee, I got dressed to go to the gym. The gym is nice, you can you there to do your thing. There is no losing at the gym, you can’t get fired at the gym, as long as you show up and lift some weights you can have at least one success for the day. I go to the gym every day because it is the only way to guarantee I will get something accomplished before the day ends. Mr. Evans is still dead

Mr. Evans is still dead. People die sure and a lot of people think you get used to it. They think, “If you have seen dozens of your friends die what does some old man you barely know matter?” I can feel them thinking it. The thing is you never really get used to death, on moment somebody is in your life the next day they aren't. You never get to tell them anything new, they never get to learn about new developments in your life and you never get to hear about theirs. When I was in the military I saw my brothers killed in batter, in terrible terrible ways. This felt different, I didn’t see him die. Just out of nowhere he went from alive to dead without me being able to do anything. I have been in a bad mood since I found out he died however many days ago.
