After the Storm

  • I woke up after the storm to the sound of murmuring as people gathered their things and started leaving the basement. I immediately want to go back to my room and see if all of my stuff is ok but I feel too hungover to get up the stairs. After waiting a while and letting everyone else leave first I slowly make my climb up the stairs to try to get to my room. When I get there everything is a mess. The couch is soaking wet, all of my tables were knocked over and everything on them had broken. My carpet had gotten wet and walking through my own apartment felt like a swamp. I felt terrible so I decided to get some good medicine, for me that was whiskey. Upon opening my fridge I saw that all of my beer had moved around and shattered knowing I had to get some alcohol or I would feel sick I checked my backup mini fridge in my bedroom and saw my bed had gotten soaked and was unusable. The sheets had come off and the mattress was ruined. I opened my mini fridge just to find it empty, I must have finished off my backup without remembering it.

  • I decide to go to the store to get some more booze and a new mattress and maybe some sheets. When I get there it is super crowded with everyone trying to replace things that they had lost during the storm. I find a 6 pack and I head to the back of the store to find a cheap mattress. When I get there there are only a few mattresses left and most of them were super expensive. All of the cheap mattresses were already taken to I pick up the cheapest one I can find and head over to the counter. When I try to pay my card gets declined. I check how much money I have and I can only get either the mattress or the beer. Knowing I can always get some beer later I decide to buy the mattress and head home. I am so tired when I get home that I take a nap before I head out to get some beer. 13 hours later I wake up from my nap and I feel thirst. I go to the kitchen to get some beer and remember that I only have water. After hydrating, I decided that I if I didn’t need booze yesterday maybe I don’t need it today either.
